Learning how to build a poles shed is great since it does not cost a lot compared to other methods and it is also super quick.

A pole shed is a simple structure. It is simply poles put in the grounds, roof on top and if you wish then walls on the outside of the poles. It's really all that simple.

Knowing what size of shed you want is essential before you begin anything. Are you just in need of a small, simple shed or do you need a huge pole barn for all your equipment, hay and anything else you might think of?! Make sure you decide on the size that fits to you needs.

Most of the time you put the poles in the ground, specially if your shed is mid size or big. It can however be free floating if it is small. This is one of the reasons why you need to know how big you want your shed.

Digging deep holes that go below frost level is the best way to go. Even if you only have a small shed. It's worth the extra few bucks and time as it will make the shed much stronger.

If you have decided on a size it's time to find a place. Finding a place can be tricky because you have to make sure that you choose a spot where the grounds drains well and does not retain water. You as little moisture in you shed as possible.

When you know how big you want your shed and where you can start sketching it. Personally I would recommend that you buy good plans instead of sketching it yourself. Doing so you will get you a strong shed that not only looks good but will last for years. A good plan is not expensive and it should include materials list and step-by-step instructions. This will help you buy the right materials and only what you need (save you money) and the instructions will help you build the shed really fast.

Do you have a building permit? Maybe you don't need one but it is always better to be sure so contact your local authorities to check if you need one and then apply for it.

When you have secured some good plans you visit your hardware store and lumberyard to buy all you need. You don't want to be running to and from the store so get everything in one trip if possible, this will save time.

When you have got good plans, all the materials and all the tools needed for the job you can start building. How you begin depends a bit on the size of your shed and what plans you have bought.
