One of the most popular of all the types of poker played, is that of Texas Hold 'Em. The regulations for playing this form of poker are a little more involved than some other types, the reason being that there are a lot of dealt cards involved. To start, 2 cards are dealt to each player face down, called the hole cards and no one except the individual players can see those cards. Betting takes place in a regulated manner and then 3 cards are dealt face up on the table (community cards) to be used by any of the players to augment the hole cards that they are holding face down. These 3 cards are referred to as the flop. Another round of betting ensues with players opting to check, fold, call or raise the bet. The next card dealt is dealt face up on the table; this is the turn. Another round of betting. One more community card is dealt face up, and this is called the river. The final round of betting takes place between the players who are left in the game, and at this point they must show their hands. The best 5 card combination wins the pot. If two hands are identical, they must split the pot.
