Blackmouth Cur: The Multi-Purpose Dog That Hailed From the Different States Of The US

A breed that has several lines which all originated from the US is what the Blackmouth Cur is. Each of this line has a special skill that has been useful for a lot of people in the US such as farmers, ranchers, families and many more. This breed is called multi-purpose for reasons that it is skillful in many fields such as treeing, hunting, herding, guarding, search and rescue, and more.

For the lines of the Blackmouth Cur, there is the Ladner Yellow Blackmouth Cur of Mississippi. This dog was the first Blackmouth Cur to be registered in a kennel club, the National Kennel Club in 1964. It is good in hunting squirrel, bobcat, raccoons, and other game; hunting and herding, and search and rescue.

There is also the Red Blackmouth Cur which, according to records, came originally from Alabama. This dog was used primarily as a guard dog, cattle herder, and hunter. It is said that this line was owned by the courthouses of Howardtown, Alabama in the 1940s.

Another line is the Wetherford Ben Blackmouth Cur which originated from Texas and was used mostly for herding. The Florida Blackmouth Cur is another line that originated from Florida that was used primarily for herding, too. The Blackmouth Cur breed is considered as a multi-purpose dog in the United States and its fame now reaches to countries as far as Haiti, Russia, India and some pats of Europe.

This breed has been called by different names for decades such as farmer's dog, Shepherds Hound, cow dog and Herdsman's dog. The name Cur has also been spelled in different ways such as Cu, Kurre and Curre. There is no Blackmouth Cur line that is an official part of the American Kennel Club but the United Kennel Club has the Red Blackmouth Cur as the official look of the Blackmouth Cur breed.

The Blackmouth Cur is very good at treeing and hunting, and possesses an outstanding skill in jumping and climbing. For this reason, it is important to confine this active dog in a fenced area that are as high as six meters or more. The Blackmouth Cur is also noted for its courage and strength as it never backs down in encounters with other large animals even bulls and bears.

Around the family, the Blackmouth Cur is nothing but a loving and loyal creature. It is very protective with the people it loves and is very eager in pleasing them. This breed also learns pretty quickly and is not sensitive to harsh comments in training.

The appearance of the Blackmouth Cur is composed of a short and rough or smooth coat. The colors appear in red, fawn, brindle, yellow, black and white. The Blackmouth Cur also has large and webbed feet just like the Catahoula Leopard which is another American breed of dog.
