Airsoft guns are all the rage in towns and cities across the country. Their realistic make and looks have gained them high popularity, and have brought on a new sport. These guns are practically exact replicas of real guns, such as an AK-47 assault rifle. But they only shoot plastic bullets. Some are 6mm caliber and some are 8mm. They can operate with compressed gas, or a spring, or even by electric.

This new hobby has been taken up by thousands, and is growing every day. Yet, if you ask around, you'll find that just as many still haven't heard of them. They remind you of the BB guns we used to have, only they don't look like a BB gun, they look like the gun they are fashioned after. This gives them a lot more uses than just a BB gun. They look extremely real.

At first glance, you wouldn't know how many uses and purposes these guns can serve. They look so much like the real McCoy they make great movie props. They can also be good for military and police training. For the collector, they come in various styles and types to match the real ones, like the AK-47. They're great for playing around in the back yard with friends.

The airsoft guns runs off one of any of these three sources of power - spring-load, gas, or electric. With the spring-load you won't have as much in the power department as with the others, but it won't hurt your wallet as much either. They're a cheaper gun and make good starter guns for trying out the sport of airsoft. The gas-powered guns use a CO2 cartridge for power, while the electric guns run off batteries.

There are many people who look at these guns and are afraid to take up the game. This is due to the great job of replication the manufacturers have done. It's been asked about these guns giving an opportunity to the more criminally minded of society. But for this, there's a law that makes it illegal for anyone to take the bright orange tip off one of these guns. This tip is what ensures everyone that it's just a toy.

Supervision is advised if there are minors taking part in any airsoft games. Just like the BB guns we used as young kids, some safety rules should be put in place. Airsoft guns aren't lethal, but just as using a BB gun, they can cause damage should you get hit in the eye, or they may break the skin if too close. So some safety applications are recommended before turning the young ones loose with these guns.

The guns are made mostly of plastic. Therefore, the cost of owning one is not much at all. Some of the starter guns will only run you about $9. 99. And don't count too much on their accuracy, after all, they are a cheap made replica. When you get up into the medium range to high price range guns, you can spend anywhere from $50 up to $200. You can even find some that are as much as $1, 000 if you're looking for high quality.

Airsoft guns look like real guns, but are only great works of replication. They provide great entertainment for those who are into the game, and are great training tools for organizations who need them. This sport is fast becoming all the rage, and all you need to do to get in on it, is buy yourself an airsoft gun.
