A basic low voltage lighting setup for a flower garden uses a light fitting with low output bulbs, a cable and a transformer. They are available in different materials with various outside textures. The least costly setup will have plastic light fittings however, a metal setup is not as expensive as it once was.

The device used for reducing voltage will change the main power source to 12 or 24 volts from 110 or 240, subject to where you are located. When it is reduced you will be safe from electrical shock that could be fatal. This allows the wires to be easily bent and in turn allows easier and safe installation of illumination around your outdoor features.

Illumination for plant areas uses lower voltage such as LED or radiant or halogen lights not unlike the ones used for automobiles. Using a lower watt bulb allows more of an ambiance light than harsh, bright lights glaring and disturbing the peaceful night. The plus side of these types of lights means they have shorter filaments - great for directing the light where you want it to be focused. Because they are small, they are the perfect idea to light accent areas of your outdoor space.

Using a halogen lamp with lower voltage will be very advantageous. The light is more consistent and will provide perfect lighting for the life of the bulb. They are quite cost-effective, have consistent power produced in watts and are going to last for approximately 4000 hours. The halogen lamps of a lower voltage were made with the idea in mind of using them for lighting displays of art and museum pieces as well as the displays in stores.

The convenience of purchasing this type of lighting kit for outdoor use is they are complete with all the parts needed for the installation and use of your low voltage lighting. To use your lights in close proximity to your home, the transformer may be connected to an outdoor outlet or you may connect it inside and use a drill for a small hole to run the wire to the outside lights.

The market for these low voltage garden lighting kits has grown rapidly thanks to inexpensive materials making them more affordable. Manufacturers have also build weatherproof transformer boxes and thicker cables to withstand not only temperature and wet conditions year round in just about any climate, but also the heat of the lamp itself.

Most outdoor lighting is used for garden areas, pathways and use on steps and patios. Accenting these areas is perfect for the low voltage lighting. The availability of kits containing everything needed for your outside lighting is perfect for all your outdoor lighting ideas.
