Sox vs. Rays, Beckett vs. Garza

Josh Beckett has struggled throughout his latest 3 starts, going 0-1 with a 9.82 earned run average, allowing 10 home runs. But the Red Sox are 2-1 in those games.

In his last outing, on 8/28 against the Blue Jays in Boston, Beckett wasn't mixed up in the outcome as he allowed 5 runs on five hits and five walked batters, with 9 strikeouts thrown in 5.0 innings.

All 5 runs came on home runs. Beckett, who surrendered only 18 homers in 2008, surrendered 12 in The month of August.

Beckett last opposed the Rays May 10th in Boston, surrendering three runs on 6 hits and three walked batters with five strikeouts in 6 innings, however did not attain a decision in Boston's 4-3 victory.

In his most recent start in Tampa Bay, April 30th, he surrendered seven runs in 4.2 innings. In five career starts at the Trop, Beckett has a record of 1-3 with a 3.58 ERA.

Garza is in a six-game winless streak, and has not won at home in his last five starts. His most recent victory was over a month ago in Toronto, beating Roy Halladay. He has just one win in his most recent 10 starts.

He is best in the American League with a .233 opposing average, however has gotten the least run support in the league with 3.73 runs per 9 innings. Tampa Bay has scored a sum of 18 runs in his 9 defeats.

He has let up three ER or less in 19 out of 2 outings this season, including 17 of his last 22.
