It's no secret that one of the most sought after toys of the year are Zhu Zhu pets. If you and your child have never before met eye to eye when it comes to when they can get their first pet, this might actually be the answer you've both been waiting for. With individual personalities and unique characteristics, these little hamsters are as close to the real thing as you can get without the same drawbacks of bringing home a living hamster.

How many times have we told our children that they have to be responsible for the pet they bring into the house? They have to play with it, feed it, make sure it has water, and clean its cage regularly. How many kids under the age of ten are able to follow through with these directives for more than a few weeks at best?

As perhaps one of the more innovative toys of our time, Zhu Zhu pets are becoming the parents' choice for an alternative pet. Some parents have purchased the hamster with limited artificial intelligence as a toy for their kids to play with. Others have made it a test of responsibility in order to graduate to the real pet. While a real hamster can't drive its own personal car the similarities between the real version and the automated version are similar enough to give both kids and parents an interesting insight.

Unlike stuffed animals or even talking toy pets, the Zhu Zhu pets are not likely to be readily outgrown. They are highly engaging little toys that offer a wide range of accessories to give your child the chance to learn and develop not just pet caretaking skills, but understand realistic time tables and the benefits of waiting until he is older to have a real pet of his own. Mazes make play time fun. The tooth brushing sounds and the hamster's toilet flushing trick is enough to hook some kids for life. The bedroom of the little hamster's house brings about sleep sounds and he wakes with a simple alarm clock just like the rest of us.

The level of engagement that these little automated pocket pets offer your child allows your child to basically grow with his new little pocket pet. Therefore, boredom with the toy is not likely to settle in at all. He is the hamster without the stinky cage. He is the hamster that doesn't get lost and won't be unintentionally treated with cruelty as his dish sits empty for several days, waiting for someone to remember to feed him.

Of course, this is a wonderful invention for any child with significant allergies. Children with severe allergies have historically had to sit on the sidelines when it comes to that rite of passage for most children. The childhood pet does not need to make a child sick.

While Zhu Zhu pets won't completely replace a real pet, it is certainly light years ahead of the average stuffed animal that kids of yesteryear received. These little guys will interact with you, play during convenient hours, and since they are not nocturnal like most pocket pets, there's no one to keep your child awake at night.

While the Zhu Zhu pets are one of the most impressive toys to be released in the last year, parents and children are finally seeing eye to eye on the great practice and ample cuddles and fun that this little automated hamster can bring into your lives.
